You can create Insights charts with site and engagement data for your Widen Collective site using the Chart Editor. Access the Chart Editor by selecting an Insights dashboard (or adding a new one), then adding a new chart or editing an existing one. After they're created, charts can be saved to multiple dashboards, copied to another dashboard, edited, and removed. Chart data can also be exported.

When creating a chart, you'll select from number of options for the layout, including area, bar, big number, column, line, map, pie, and top hits charts, then choose a date range, and can group by and filter data as needed.

Ask yourself these questions when you're creating a chart:

  • What source of data will be needed for it?
  • What timeframe should the data be in?
  • How should the data be displayed?
  • Does the source of data need to be narrowed? If so, how?

Note that data will display in charts even if you haven't enabled the feature in the Collective.

Create charts

Create charts by clicking Add Charts Now after you create a new dashboard or by clicking Add Charts in the left navigation on an existing dashboard.

Create a brand new chart or select from the list of charts located on other dashboards, and those charts will be added to the dashboard. When scrolling to see existing charts, you'll see some that are selected, which indicates that those charts are included on the current dashboard.

New charts will be given a default name of New Chart. Edit the name based on what the chart’s data will include. The name of existing charts remains the same, but can be edited after the chart has been added to the dashboard.

By default, new charts will display asset views by date from the last 30 days. You can select a different length of time in the Date Range dropdown. 

Select site or engagement data, then choose a date range, options to group data by, and filter to further customize the chart. Filters help narrow results. Groupings define the way data is shown on the x-axis.

Data can be displayed differently by selecting from the available chart options, which include:

  • Area
  • Bar
  • Column
  • Line
  • Pie
  • Map
  • Big number
  • Top hits

Up to 15 groupings can display on the x-axis of all charts, except for in date range and pie charts. The 15 groupings are auto-selected from the top 15 results from the data requested for the chart.

In date range charts, if the date range is less than 60 days, all of the dates in the range will display on the x-axis of the chart.

Save charts

After a chart is created or edited, click the Save Chart icon. It'll automatically be saved to the dashboard you're currently on. If a chart is created while you're not on a dashboard, the chart will be saved to the dashboard you were most recently on.

Saved charts can be added to other dashboards by clicking Add chart to a dashboard and selecting from the available dashboards that display.

Copy charts

Saved charts can be copied by selecting Copy Chart. Click the pencil icon to edit the chart from the dashboard, then select Copy Chart in the left navigation. Charts that you copy cannot have the same name as the original chart, so edit the chart’s name. The chart will be copied to the dashboard you were most recently on.

Edit charts

Data for existing charts can be edited. To edit a chart:

  1. Select the dashboard the chart is on.
  2. Click the pencil icon.
  3. Update the data, date range, group by details, or the filters.
  4. Click Save.

The chart will update on the dashboard and can be added to another dashboard and modified as appropriate for that dashboard.


Remove charts

To remove a chart from a dashboard, click the X in the upper right. The chart will be deleted only from only that dashboard, not from other dashboards.


Export chart data

An overview of or details about the chart data is located in the table below a chart. You can export that data into a CSV file and it will be available for download from the Exports page. Up to 1.5 million rows of data can be exported for Insights charts. If your export includes more than 1.5 million rows, you'll receive notification that it exceeds the limit.

Note that the image of the chart itself cannot be exported.

The title of the export defaults to the name of the dashboard and can be edited when you're creating the export.

In overview exports, all of the overview data in the table will display. Details exports include additional details not included in the table, like order numbers, portals assets are downloaded or viewed from and any associated access code email addresses, email addresses and first and last names, referring site URLs, embed code creator names, and more. You won't see the Export Details button if there's no data to display for a chart.

If you'd like to track when an export has completed processing, select the Track Exports to Download notification in your user profile to be notified by email when the export is available.

Collective admins must enable the Export Analytics Reports permission for you to export chart details. The Export Analytics Reports permission also allows you to export Quick Insights data, which differs from Insights exports in that you're receiving details only about that asset. With Insights exports, you'll see details about a broad range of assets and can filter that detail to get a better picture about those assets (or users, downloads, shares, etc.).
