With the Adobe CC Connector, you can easily repurpose and extend the value of your assets across InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. If you're often making changes to assets in Adobe, the Connector allows you to search for those assets in your Widen Collective site, make modifications to them in InDesign, Illustrator, or Photoshop, then upload them back to your site as a version of an existing asset.

See metadata, usage rights, and expiration dates - if those options are set up in your Collective site - in the Connector, which ensures rights management of assets are being respected. You can also quickly access the Asset Details page from the Connector to see more information about assets.

The Connector is supported in Adobe CC 2018 and 2019 for Mac and Windows OS. It’s best used in Chrome, Firefox, and Safari on Mac OS, and only supported in Chrome and Firefox on Windows OS. Learn more about supported OS and versions in this article.

Check out our video to learn more about installing and registering the Connector.

Collective admins should enable the Access Adobe Connector permission for you to access and use it. For you to update assets in InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop using the Connector, admins must enable the Adobe Connector feature. They can contact the Widen Central Support team to request the feature be enabled.

There is a per-user license cost for the Connector. Collective admins should contact Central Support for more information about that.

Generate credentials

To get started, you'll first need to generate credentials and download the Connector from the Collective, then register it in each of the apps.

Credentials - an email address and registration code - are used to set up the integration between the Connector and InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. To generate credentials:

  1. Go to your user profile in the upper right of the Collective.
  2. Select User settings.
  3. Click the Adobe CC Connector tab.
  4. Click Generate Credentials.

After you've gotten the credentials, download the Connector package file (Adobe-Connector-For-Widen.pkg) for your operating system from the Collective.

Before installing the Connector on your Windows OS, you'll need to remove any existing versions of the InDesign plugin from your operating system by closing all open Adobe apps, then following the instructions below for removal. (On Mac OS, the previous version will be uninstalled when you install the most recent version.) You may need to update your credentials after installation.

To remove previous Connector versions on Windows OS:

  • If the previous version was for Adobe CC 2015 or higher, uninstall the WidenCCConnector x.x plugin in the Programs and Features control in the Windows control panel.
  • If you don't see WidenCCConnector x.x in the Programs and Features control, you're likely using an earlier version. Uninstall it manually from C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign CC XXXX\Plug-ins\SiliconConnectorWiden.

After uninstalling previous versions, double-click the Adobe Connector for Widen package to begin the installation process. You'll be walked through the process and can then register the Connector in InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop. See details below for how to register.

If you're running into errors when installing the Connector, follow the installation troubleshooting instructions to resolve the errors.

After installing the Connector, register it in each of the apps. Registering the Connector is done the same way in InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.

In InDesign, register with Widen before registering the Connector. To register with Widen:

  1. Enter your email address and registration code from your user profile in the Collective in the Register with Widen box that displays when you open InDesign. If you're prompted to enter the username and password due to software updates or other reasons, refer to your user profile for that information.
  2. Click OK.

Next, click Widen in the menu bar, then select to register Widen.

A slight delay (approximately one to two minutes, depending on the operating system) may occur the first time you open InDesign after the Connector is installed and registered.

InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop

Access the Connector from Window > Extensions to begin working with it in InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop.

Register from the menu in the upper right corner.

Enter the email address and registration code from your user profile, and the app will connect to the Collective and allow you to search for assets. Note that your email address is the user name and the registration code is the password.

There are a number of actions you can take after installing and registering the Connector.
