So many updates for June! All of our teams continue to work hard to bring you the best in the Widen Collective, and this month is no different. We’ve got A LOT in store for you in each app, so read on to learn more about what's new.

Adobe CC Connector Enhancements

Extensions will be added for all files that are linked in InDesign from the Collective and downloaded via the Adobe CC Connector. The original filenames in the Collective remain unchanged. If downloaded files are uploaded to the Collective using the Connector, the files will follow the strategy you use for file extensions on your site. If filenames for assets don't include the extension, the extension for the upload won't be included. Resolving of conflicting assets and versioning will be handed based on the selected upload profile. Note that if the upload profile isn't set up to auto version conflicting uploads, a file without a file extension will not be uploaded as version of a file with an extension. It will instead be uploaded as a new asset.

In addition, within the Connector, filenames will include the extension, even if filenames in the Collective don't include them. This is done so designers know which file types they're working with and is a change from earlier versions of the Connector that originally mirrored the Collective filenames, with or without extensions.

Video Settings Improvements

For videos in the Collective, we’ve updated the default settings to improve the user experience. Videos now default to using the HLS player, rather than a Flash player, and will also default to playing in HD. Videos will play in the highest resolution available based on a user’s bandwidth, though users can select a lower resolution if they need to.

Embed codes for videos are also now responsive to the screen width of the device that’s being used.

Other Updates and Resolved Issues

  • You can now upload assets of up to 500 GB in size.

  • See up to 10,000 assets in search results. If there are more than 10,000 results, the total number of results will be indicated at the top of the results.

  • The issue with assets not displaying when you click the Assets With Empty Required Metadata queue has been resolved.

  • The issue with a batch of assets in the Pending Delete queue not deleting has been resolved.

  • The issue with users accessing assets without required metadata fields completed through a direct URL has been resolved.
  • The issue with search results not matching selections in the refine search has been resolved.

  • The issue with users receiving an application error when using the Upload Wizard has been resolved.

  • The issue with a date range option displaying when creating charts for storage by asset group has been resolved.

  • The issue with filtering charts by categories has been resolved.

There are a couple updates to Portals we’d like you to know about. The first one: while you’re waiting for a portal to load, you’ll now see a spinner while you wait. Second, when downloading files from a portal, the file format is now indicated next to the size of the file that you’re downloading.

In addition, we’ve added a minimum height for banner images to improve how they work on mobile devices, as well as improved the mobile layout for search results and banner sections.

 Other Updates and Resolved Issues

  • Add links to other websites or pages to images in column sections in Brand Portals.
  • Select the sort order of assets in a portal. Sort by date added or by filename for assets and collections in an asset section.
  • Videos that use embed codes from a portal now display responsively based on the size of the screen width of the device being used.

  • The issue with text boxes in banner images not displaying when they're on the left side of the banner has been resolved.

  • The issue with text in a portal displaying as cut off in IE 11 has been resolved.

  • The issue with generic binary files downloading from a portal without their extension has been resolved.

The issue with portals that require a login viewed on a mobile device directing users to the Collective, rather than to the portal, has been resolved.

  • The issue with downloading all assets from a portal, including assets in collections, has been resolved.

  • The issue with assets users don’t have permission to being included in ZIP files when downloading all has been resolved.

  • The issue with portals being intermittently unavailable has been resolved.

  • The issue with Brand Portals being empty and not showing as active has been resolved.

In addition to some Templates items we’ve cleaned up to enhance the user experience with the app, we’ve added a number of enhancements for the Business and Workgroup tiers, including support for multi-page templates, customizing asset choices for image frames on a per-frame basis, and updates to how templates can be ordered.

Preview Multi-page Templates

Make sure you’re customizing the template you want to by using the pagination tool to preview each page. Click the arrow below the preview to see each page in the template.

Per Frame Asset Selection

When assigning assets to a template, each frame can offer different asset choices for customization. Assign individual assets to each frame or set up a saved search for the frame.

If the layer in InDesign is named with the default filename, brackets display around the frame name (rather than quotes) in the Collective. The designer must edit the layer name in InDesign in order for an image frame to be customizable with specific assets.

Order Updates

You can restrict users from ordering templates they've customized and instead have them send those documents to a third party printer or email them to someone for approval. In addition, if order approval is required, users will now see a button that says “Submit for Approval.”

The permissions users have for ordering and downloading in the Collective also apply to Templates orders and downloads.

Resolved Issue

  • The issue with Template orders not being sent to the default recipient has been resolved.

Get a bird’s-eye view of a project’s details with the timeline for each deliverable. With the timeline, you’ll see what’s happening with the project, including what deliverable is on track and which one is falling behind.

If you have hundreds of in-work projects, you’re now able to scroll through the projects list and see the details for each one.

You can now also select upload profiles from the dropdown before uploading a final project to the Collective, rather than entering profile names.

Other Updates

  • You can now add project managers and add deliverable managers to manage each piece of the project in Workflow.
  • You and your users can now also choose the types of email notifications you receive for Workflow projects.
  • We've added the Administering Workflow Application permission, which allows you as the site admin to create and manage any project in Workflow, edit any details for any project, see all projects and deliverables in the system and edit those details, create and manage project forms, and close all projects. We've also renamed the rest of the Workflow permissions.

API Updates

  • Asset alternate previews can now be uploaded and deleted via versions 1.0 and 2.0.

  • The date assets were last updated (uploaded) now displays in version 1.0 of the API.

  • The asset upload endpoint now accepts a URL to a publicly accessible file as well as the bytes of the file itself in version 2.0.

  • Metadata can now be assigned to new assets with a single API call during upload in version 2.0.

Check out our API documentation for more details.
